Dental Implants

What are Dental Implants

Dental implants are safe, reliable, and established cosmetic treatment that helps you replace missing teeth. It is a safe titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone to replace the missing root. Once the screw has settled in the jaw bone the tooth coloured crown is then placed on it.

If you are missing some teeth, dental implants can provide the closest possible replacement to having your natural teeth back. Unlike bridges or dentures, dental implants are secured to the jaw using a titanium post so they will not shift or move, allowing you to live life to the full, talking, eating, and smiling with confidence.

You will need to attend for a consultation with the dentist to see if you are suitable to have dental implants. The dentist will need to assess the level of bone present in your jaw, if there is insufficient bone or it is not healthy enough, it may be necessary to perform a bone graft before the treatment can go ahead.

The implant will be placed under a local anaesthetic, before it is left to settle for 3-4 months to ensure that the bone has time to heal around it securing it permanently to your jaw bone. Once your jawbone has healed the dentist will be able to restore the implant using a crown, bridge or denture depending on the number of teeth to be replaced.

Advantages of dental implants

● Dental implants blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. These implants are colour matched so that they will be indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

● Dental Implants are long lasting.  They have a 95% success rate over 10 years, meaning they will last longer than other restorations.

● Implants are free standing.  Implants are self-supporting and do not cause any damage to the surrounding healthy teeth.
